Birmingham have money to play with this summer and a manager ready to spend it.

Harry Redknapp managed to guide the Blues to safety in his three games in charge of the club, and, backed by the club's new owners, is ready to spend his way to the Premier League.

The club have already signed Barnsley centre back Marc Roberts, competed to sign now Everton winger Henry Onyekuru and also competed with Aston Villa for the signing of John Terry.

All this shows that there is money to be spent by the club this summer, giving them an advantage over their Championship rivals to build a squad capable of a Premier League push.

One player they should look to aid them in their promotion bid is Crystal Palace midfielder James McArthur, who looks set to leave Selhurst Park this summer.

Birmingham's Second City rivals Aston Villa have reportedly been eyeing up McArthur as part of a promotion charge of their own.

The Scotland international lost his place in the Palace line-up when Sam Allardyce brought in Luka Milivojevic in holding midfield from Olympiacos in January.

And with Frank De Boer taking over as manager of the club this summer, it seems as though he may find game time even harder to come by.

A move to the Championship would make sense.

There is a very decent chance that with Birmingham he could be in the Premier League by 2018, earning himself a regular starting spot in the process.

For Birmingham, they would be getting a player far, far too good for this level, and he could easily be the lynchpin in their promotion campaign.
