Teden Mengi has taken to Twitter to share a message after sealing a temporary switch to Birmingham City yesterday from Manchester United.

As confirmed by the Blues' official website, Mengi is set to feature for the Championship side during the remainder of the 2021/22 campaign.

Birmingham needed to bolster their options at centre-back following Wolverhampton Wanderers' decision to recall Dion Sanderson from his loan spell at St Andrew's.

Sanderson featured on 15 occasions for the Blues in the second-tier and will now be hoping to force his way into Wolves' side in the coming weeks.

Certainly no stranger to life in the Championship, Mengi spent the second half of the previous campaign on loan at Derby County.

During his time with the Rams, the defender made nine league appearances for the club before his spell was cut short due to a hamstring injury.

With Birmingham set to face Plymouth Argyle in the third-round of the FA Cup this weekend, it will be intriguing to see whether Mengi is handed his debut in this particular fixture.

Ahead of the club's showdown with Steven Schumacher's side, Mengi has admitted on Twitter that he is excited to represent Birmingham in the coming months.

The defender posted: "Excited to join @BCFC for the second half of the season!

Let's get to work."

The Verdict

This may turn out to be a good move for Mengi as he could feature on a regular basis for Birmingham due to the fact that the club are relatively short of options in this particular position.

With Harlee Dean likely to leave St Andrew's after being made available for transfer, Mengi will fancy his chances of slotting in at centre-back alongside Marc Roberts and Kristian Pedersen.

Although the defender only managed to average a WhoScored match rating of 6.42 in the second-tier last season, there is no reason why he cannot go on to thrive under the guidance of Bowyer who has a good track-record when it comes to getting the best out of young players.

Having helped to nurture the talent of Conor Gallagher, Sanderson and Tahith Chong in recent years, the Blues boss will be confident in his ability to further Mengi's development at St Andrew's.
