Tayo Edun is expected in contention to feature for Blackburn Rovers this weekend for their FA Cup clash with Birmingham City, according to Lancs Live.

The defender had been earmarked for a temporary move away from Ewood Park during the current transfer window.

However, despite being linked with a number of clubs, Edun has yet to be loaned out by Blackburn.

A report from Football Insider earlier this month revealed that Charlton Athletic were leading the race to sign Edun.

The defender was also understood to be attracting interest from Sheffield Wednesday, Lincoln City and Milton Keynes Dons.

While the South London Press suggested that Edun was set to make the move to The Valley for the remainder of the season, a swoop for the 24-year-old is now looking unlikely.

Charlton recently bolstered their options in the left-back position by signing Matt Penney.

Penney joined the Addicks on loan from Ipswich Town until the end of the campaign after spending the first half of the term at Motherwell.

Blackburn booked their place in the fourth round of the FA Cup earlier this month by eliminating Norwich City from this competition.

Having been included in the match-day squad for this aforementioned clash, Edun will be hoping to be given the chance to showcase his ability on Saturday when Rovers host Birmingham.

The Verdict

With Charlton now seemingly unlikely to make a move for Edun, it will be interesting to see if one of the other sides who have been linked with a move with him opt to try and finalise a loan deal.

As it stands, Edun is set to stay at Blackburn for the rest of the season.

If a move away from the club cannot be completed, the right-back will need to step up his performance levels in order to have a chance of forcing his way into the club's starting eleven in the coming months.

Edun has been limited to just 12 appearances in all competitions this season due to the presence of Harry Pickering who is currently Jon Dahl Tomasson's first-choice left-back.

Pickering has started 24 of the 28 league games that Blackburn have participated in while he has also represented his side in the League Cup and the FA Cup.
