After enjoying a terrific first season under Garry Monk, Leeds United’s campaign now looks unlikely to culminate in promotion via the play-offs.

Stuttering form and lacklustre performances have led to the Whites' downfall, after juggling around the fourth and fifth place positions for the duration of the campaign.

Now though, Monk’s men find themselves seventh in the standings, three points behind high-flying Fulham, who do not look like dropping points anytime soon and who have a much superior goal difference.

After Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to relegation candidates Burton Albion, Leeds fans everywhere looked resigned to another season of Championship football, despite performances this season that have perhaps warranted Premier League football next term.

Charlie Taylor has been a controversial figure at Elland Road all year round, handing in a transfer request before the opening day of the season against Queens Park Rangers.

You have to give the youngster credit though, he has shown his professionalism all year for Garry Monk's men this campaign, but speculation of a move away from the Yorkshire club doesn't seem to go away, with a host of Premier League clubs vying for the left back's signature.

This upcoming summer transfer window is incredibly important for Leeds' future.

Leeds seem powerless to Taylor's exit when his contract expires this summer.

With that being said, here, FLW takes a look at three players that Leeds United should sign in the summer.

Marley Watkins

One player who has been linked with a move to Elland Road of late is Watkins.

The impressive 26-year-old is out of contract at Barnsley at the end of this season, with Leeds fighting off interest from clubs such as Burnley, Aston Villa, and Ipswich Town, who are all also vying for his signature.

The forward has been a regular feature for the Tykes this season, and looked to be on the move in January when Ipswich Town came calling, however a move never materialised, and he has since put in some impressive displays for the Reds, netting 10 goals this season.

Ryan Kent

If a move for Watkins doesn't materialise, then Monk should definitely look at landing his fellow teammate.

Kent, currently on loan at Barnsley from Liverpool, is set to depart Anfield in the summer, despite being influential for Paul Heckingbottom's men this term.

The 20-year-old undeniably has the ability to take a man on with his blistering pace, and this has not gone unnoticed, with a host of top flight and Championship clubs alerted to his presence.

Max Gradel

Gradel is currently in the Premier League with Bournemouth but the winger is unhappy and wants a move away from the South Coast in the summer.

Gradel is definitely no stranger to the Elland Road faithful, having thrived during three magnificent years at the Yorkshire club, where he netted 22 times in 63 games from the wing.

The Ivorian would probably jump at the chance of playing in front of those fans again, and would be a magnificent coup for Garry Monk.
