Bristol City defender Taylor Moore has called for teammate and Robins goalkeeper Dan Bently to be given some recognition on the international stage.

The shot-stopper proved an integral part of his side's 1-0 win against Reading at Ashton Gate on Saturday and, replying to the summer-signing's post-match Instagram update, Moore has been talking him up.

Writing alongside a slideshow of photos from the game, Bentley initially said: "Great way to go into the international break, not the prettiest game but 3 points and a clean sheet."

Then, in the comments, centre-back Moore replied with: "Dan Bentley for England 👀".

Famara Diedhiou scored the only goal of the game in the first-half, as Lee Johnson's side moved to within one point of first-place West Bromwich Albion.

But it was Bentley and his back-line who impressed the most.

Since arriving from Brentford during the summer transfer window, the 26-year-old has played in all ten of the club's Championship matches, keeping three clean sheets in the process.

Moore has also been an ever-present, starting in all but one of their league matches and grabbing himself a goal in the 3-3 draw with Preston North End.

With the international break coming up, Gareth Southgate has already settled on his squad, with Jordan Pickford, Tom Heaton and Nick Pope getting the nod, but who knows what could happen if Bentley's form continues.

The verdict

It is a nice thought from Moore isn't it? Although ultimately unrealistic.

Bentley is an excellent shot-stopper but it is extremely unlikely that Southgate will dip into the second-tier in order to fill one of the three available positions.

But Jack Butland continued to retain his place for a large part of last season so it is not out of the question.
