Taylor Harwood-Bellis to Stoke City: Is it a good potential move? Would he start? What does he offer?

Stoke City manager Michael O’Neill may be tempted to bolster his squad this month as he looks to guide the club to a top-six finish in the Championship this season.

One of the individuals who has recently emerged on the club’s radar is Taylor Harwood-Bellis.

According to the Manchester Evening News, the Potters are poised to sign the Manchester City defender on a temporary deal with the Premier League leaders set to curtail his loan spell at Anderlecht.

Providing that Stoke are able to get this deal over the line, it will be intriguing to see how Harwood-Bellis will fare in the Championship.

Here, we have decided to take a look at whether this would be a good move for Stoke whilst also assessing whether the defender will start for O’Neill’s side and what he will offer for the second-tier outfit…

Is it a good move?

This could turn out to be a shrewd bit of business by Stoke as the club desperately need to bolster their options at centre-back this month.

Harry Souttar is set to miss the remainder of the campaign due to injury whilst Leo Ostigard was recently recalled by Brighton & Hove Albion before being sent out on loan to Genoa.

Although Stoke are currently able to call upon the services of Ben Wilmot, Danny Batth and James Chester, Harwood-Bellis’ arrival will unquestionably provide the club with a boost heading into their upcoming fixtures.

Will he start for Stoke?

Whilst there is every chance that Harwood-Bellis will go on to thrive under the guidance of O’Neill, he may initially struggle to force his way into Stoke’s side.

Who did Stoke sign Romaine Sawyers on loan from earlier this season?

The teenager has only played 19 games at this level during his career to date and thus it may take him some time to adapt to life in the Championship again.

By producing some positive cameo performances for Stoke, Harwood-Bellis may eventually emerge as a key player for the club as they look to push on in the second-tier.

What does he offer?

Harwood-Bellis is very assured with the ball at his feet as during his spell with Anderlecht, the defender managed to complete 87.7% of his passes (as per WhoScored).

The defender is also capable of coping with dangerous situations in matches as he averaged 3.1 clearances per game at Anderlecht whilst he also produced 0.9 blocks per match.

By building upon these aforementioned statistics at Stoke, Harwood-Bellis may become an instant hit with the club’s supporters who will be desperate to see their side succeed in the Championship in the second half of the season.
