Tammy Abraham was the saga of the first week or so of the transfer window, with vast speculation linking him with a move to Wolves.

The Championship's top scorer was rumoured to be recalled by his parent club Chelsea, but he decided to remain at Aston Villa.

That was the right decision.

While the temptation of Wolves may have been great, Tammy Abraham should wait, and earn his place in the Premier League.

If he had joined Wolves, he would have been a substitute, with the form of Raul Jimenez, as well as the multiple options Nuno Espirito Santo has on the bench, including Adama Traore and Diogo Jota.

By staying at Villa, Abraham can earn his place in the Premier League organically, by winning promotion with Aston Villa.

While Villa have struggled in 2019, they are still well in the race for the play-offs, where - to cite an ageing cliche - it is a lottery.

Abraham has proved this season why he is so revered in England, but waiting his chance to play in the Premier League again is the best choice.

At Swansea last season, he barely featured from January onwards, as his form had significantly dipped.

If the England striker continues his form, he will be well on for the Championship top scorer, and he could soon be playing Premier League football, in the Claret and Blue of Aston Villa FC.
