Talks are ongoing regarding the future of reported West Bromwich Albion target John Swift, who is expected to leave Reading at the end of the season with a number of clubs in England and abroad interested, according to Berkshire Live

No player has been more important in the Royals' successful Championship survival push than Swift, who has scored 11 times and provided 13 assists this term.

But after six years with the club, a calf issue means the 26-year-old is thought to have played his final game for Reading – with his current deal expiring in the summer and no fresh terms agreed.

A report from Berkshire Live has claimed that Swift will be moving on at the end of his contract but that "talks are ongoing" about his future – with multiple clubs in England and overseas interested in the playmaker.

Leeds United have consistently been linked with the Royals midfielder in recent windows and it emerged earlier this year that they would look to strengthen in the centre of the park in the upcoming window.

Football League World revealed in September that Burnley, Crystal Palace, Norwich City, and Wolves were all keen as well.

Those Premier League clubs look set to face competition from West Brom as the Express&Star reported earlier this month that The Hawthorns outfit were weighing up a move after scouting Swift regularly this term.

The Verdict

Swift's Reading tenure has looked likely to end this summer for some time but it seems decisions could be made very soon about what his next move will be.

The midfielder would be a phenomenal signing for Swift and add the creativity they've been lacking in that area but you have to feel the 26-year-old will be hoping for a Premier League move.

He's earned a chance in the top flight with his impressive displays at Championship level and, if the reports are anything to go by, has been a long-term Leeds target.

It seems there are multiple clubs – both in England and abroad interested – and it's going to be interesting to see where Swift ends up.
