Sunderland will be looking to win a timely promotion back into the Championship this term, under the management of Lee Johnson.

The Black Cats missed out on a return to the second-tier last season, after a defeat to Lincoln City in their play-off semi-final, much to the frustration of the Stadium of Light faithful.

That condemned Johnson's side to another year in League One, and they'll be eager to see their side mount a serious push for the automatic promotion places this term.

Sunderland have had a tough few seasons prior to last year's campaign both on and off the pitch and the club's sporting director Kristjaan Speakman spoke out on the club's recruitment so far in the transfer window, whilst also talking out transfers and moving forwards, in an interview with the Sunderland Echo.

"We felt we were very-well prepared at the start of the window.

"We've been successful in acquiring some of the targets we set out to get, and we feel we've been really diligent in how we've gone about that in terms of the types of players and how they fit it into our playing style.

"We want to bring a youthful squad to Sunderland but it's also about getting a blend."

Plenty of Sunderland supporters took to social media to issue their thoughts on Speakman's recent comments on transfers, recruitment and the progress update.
