It has been confirmed today that Huddersfield starlet and Danish youth international Philip Billing has signed a contract extension at the club that will extend his contract until 2020.

Philip Billing

Having joined Huddersfield from Danish Superliga side Esbjerg during the 2012/13 season, he has been one of the hottest prospects in the academy and one of the most exciting players for Huddersfield fans to watch develop.

Although he has featured for the senior side before, this season has been his breakthrough season, despite injury and a very contentious suspension. He has shown himself to be more than worthy of a starting place in Huddersfield's side.

He has featured six times this season and also made three appearances off the bench however he could make a lot more before the season comes to a close, and also has the ability to cement himself as a permanent fixture in Huddersfield's midfield next season.

As Phillip Billing signed the contract extension, David Wagner said to the club site: “I am very happy that Phil has signed a new contract with Huddersfield.

“As I have said many times before, keeping our good players here is just as important as looking for new talent to bring in and this adds to new contracts for Sean Scannell, Joe Lolley, Harry Bunn and Joe Murphy.

"Philip is a talent and he is a good character as well. We are proud he is our player. He is progressing very well, which is no surprise as he is football intelligent.

“He has taken his opportunity in the team recently, showing he can bring his performance to the pitch.

“However, we have a lot more work to do with him. We still have a lot of work to do to make him the player I expect him to be.”

David Wagner will no doubt help to develop Philip Billing into an even better talent than he already was with Wagner's reputation for developing young talented players.
