It is a year to the day that Derby County defeated Manchester United in the Carabao Cup, which has drawn an emotional response from many fans of the club.

With Frank Lampard at the helm, the Rams traveled to Old Trafford for the Third Round tie and defeated the Premier League side via a penalty shoot-out.

United opened the scoring through Juan Mata but a sensational free-kick from on-loan forward Harry Wilson pulled Derby back level.

The hosts were reduced to 10 men in the second half when Sergio Romero was sent off for a handball.

The Rams capitalised on their numerical advantage and went ahead through Jack Marriott in the 85th minute but a stoppage-time header from Marouane Fellaini took the tie to penalties.

The first 15 spot-kicks were all scored but Scott Carson saved Phil Jones penalty to seal the win for Derby.

The Championship side have not had a chance to pull off such a scalp this season as they were knocked out of the competition by East Midlands rivals Nottingham Forest in the second round.

Things have not started well under new boss Phillip Cocu and the Rams are currently 18th with just one win from eight league games.

The result seems to represent better times for Derby fans and the anniversary has drawn emotional responses from many of them.
