Charlton Athletic majority shareholder Tahnoon Nimer and former chairman Matt Southall have exchanged fresh blows as their ugly public dispute rolls on.

The boardroom battle between the two men began in March and led to Southall and director Jonathan Heller being removed from their roles.

Both were part of East Street Investment's takeover of the club in January but Nimer has accused Southall of misusing the clubs money, while the ex-chairman has responded with accusations of his own relating to the Syrian businessman's funding of the club.

It was revealed earlier this week that the pair are being investigated by the EFL over potential misconduct relating to ESI's takeover of Charlton.

Both Nimer and Southall were given a platform to discuss the situation on talkSPORT yesterday, which led to fresh blows being exchanged.

Nimer accused the former chairman of continuing to cause issues for the club.

He said: "They are no longer there, but they’re still fighting and they’re still hammering the club.

“Matt Southall, he keeps sending his invoices to the club to get paid for his consultancies.

“I want the fans of our club to know that I have already sent my response to the EFL and I’m cooperating fully with them.

“There’s nothing to hide from the EFL.”

In response, Southall denied accusations that he had misused club money and claimed that Nimer had made no attempts to satisfy the EFL's previous demands over the source and proof of funding.

He told talkSPORT: "As you know given previous experiences with clubs last year [Bury], we all know what the potential consequences could be.

“In terms of what Tahnoon is saying, this has been going on since November, this isn’t a case of ‘I’ve removed Matt Southall and now I’m going to show the EFL where my funds are’.

“This has been going on since November, December and January and February. Not once has he provided any evidence to the EFL to satisfy them.

“If he had done, even if he had put any money into the club whatsoever, the EFL would not have opened this investigation.”

It has been a particularly difficult few months for the South London club, who have had to deal with this dispute, a relegation battle, the delay to the season and now an EFL investigation.

The Verdict

This fresh exchange of blows between Nimer and Southall shows that the dispute continues to roll on and do so in public.

You have to feel for Charlton fans, who must've thought they were done with off-field issues after the takeover was completed in January.

As it is they've had to deal with this ugly disagreement and given the EFL charge, things could be about to get worse.
