Sky Bet League Two side Swindon Town are set to complete the signing of former Oldham Athletic defender Rob Hunt, according to reliable journalist Alan Nixon.

The 23-year-old made the move to Boundary Park from Brighton and Hove Albion in 2017, and made just over 90 appearances for the Latics in all competitions, before mutually agreeing to terminate his contract just a few days ago.

The versatile full-back, who plays mostly as a right-back but can also play as a left-back, made 43 appearances for the League Two side last season, but is now set to move onto pastures new.

According to Nixon, Swindon Town are "about to" sign Hunt on a free transfer, a club and a player that Robins boss Richie Wellens will know well having managed them in the 2017/18 campaign.

The former Leicester City midfielder guided Swindon to a 13th placed finish last season, and has already completed the signings of Jerry Yates, Mathieu Baudry, Tyler Reid and Ezekiel Fryers this summer.

The Verdict

In some ways, this would be quite a strange signing for Swindon considering that they have already signed two full-backs in Reid and Fryers this summer, would Hunt would still be a very good signing for Town.

He is a player that Wellens will know how to get the best out of, and he is able to play as a left-back or as a right-back, making him a very useful option to have in League Two next season.

Swindon have made some really shrewd signings so far this summer, and Hunt would be another smart addition for the Robins.
