Swindon Town are thought to be keen on taking Portsmouth's Adam May on a season-long loan, as reported by BBC Radio Wiltshire Sport.

May is a central midfielder with previous loan experience at Gosport, Aldershot and Sutton United, but he's struggled to get close to the first team set up with Pompey.

The bulk of his experience with his parent club is 13 League One outings in 2017/18, and his 30 appearances in total include 11 in the EFL Trophy.

This season he made five appearances for Kenny Jackett's team either side of a loan spell, four of which came in the early stages of the EFL Trophy. His one other outing came in the 2-0 defeat at QPR in the FA Cup.

That League One experience seems to be enough to suggest to Swindon boss Richie Wellens that May is worth taking for a whole season, something of mutual benefit to both clubs. He impressed in the National League with Aldershot last season and regular football can only aid his development.

It would be the second capture inside a week for Swindon, with Tyler Reid having joined yesterday from Swansea on a two-year deal.

The Verdict

This is the type of loan that either works out well or is a big flop.

May could take Swindon by storm, but if he's in and out of the side it doesn't bode well for his Portsmouth career.

It is make or break time for him though. Impress in League Two and his stock could rise significantly. He's young and focussed and might be the replacement for Kyle Bennett who enjoyed a spell on loan there last season.
