Swindon Town have made former Oldham midfielder Anton Rodgers their first summer signing.
The son of current Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers, Anton has taken in spells with Chelsea, Brighton and Exeter before joining Oldham last summer.
However the 21 year-old was limited to just seven appearances last season with Lee Johnson’s Oldham side and was released after the expiry of his contract last summer.
Anton Rodgers had previously been on trial with Swindon and has now agreed a one-year deal with Mark Cooper’s Swindon Town team.
Speaking to the club’s official website Rodgers revealed how the move came about: “I know a few of the boys here and Luke (Williams) asked if I was interested and I was really keen. I’m from down the road in Reading so it was something I was interested in doing and I’m glad it’s done now.
“I just wanted to move closer back to home. Thankfully, Swindon were interested and it was something I could do.”
Swindon Town’s transfer activity had previously been restricted after a court battle surrounding chairman Lee Power’s ownership of the club. Now that this has been resolved Swindon are aiming to be more active in the transfer market in the coming weeks.
