Swindon Town boss Ritchie Wellens is keen to bring on loan hero Theo Robinson back to the County Ground after his impressive stint with the club.

Wellens brought the well-travelled striker in from Southend on loan and saw him bag seven goals in sixteen matches. Although Wellens hasn't stated himself he wants the striker to stay, Echo News has reported that they understand a permanent move is being sought.

Robinson has had a varied career, playing in the Premier League, the National League and the SPFL as well as all remaining divisions in England. He almost dropped out of football in 2017, but earned a six-month contract with Lincoln City whom he helped fire to the FA Cup quarter final.

That earned him a move to Southend on a two-and-a-half year deal, but in two seasons he made almost as many starts for them as he has in his six month spell with the Robins.

The report states any move for the 30-year-old is unlikely to be confirmed until Southend have appointed a new manager.

The Verdict

Robinson is still a lively figure even though he's hit 30, plenty of pace and an eye for goal in the lower leagues.

He's struggled in League One, but as a League Two striker he's a real prospect and a move to Swindon would suit all parties.

He clearly settled well under Wellens and Southend need to rebuild, possibly without him.

This would be the least surprising move of the summer.
