Hendon and Poyet were both among the favourites with the bookies' to take over after the club parted company with Mark Cooper last week.

However The Robins' chairman, who is also in temporary charge of the team, has officially ruled the duo out of contention.

"I have not spoke to Ian Hendon and he is in a job anyway, so it would not be the right thing to do," said the 43-year-old when asked about the possibility of the Leyton Orient manager taking over.

While Hendon is definitely out of the running, Power confirmed that he has spoken to a number of candidates and he will continue to assess his options this week as he hopes to have a new manager in place before next weekend.

"I have spoke to three at the moment, I have got another couple to speak to in the week,” he said.

“Wigan will be the last game then hopefully we will have a new man in place.

“We just want to take the pressure away from the coaching staff, it is the paramount part of this club because they need to implement our style of play.”

One of the shock contenders for the post was former Sunderland and Brighton manager Gus Poyet but Power has said that the former Swindon assistant would be far too expensive for the League One outfit.

“We were never going to attract the likes of Gus Poyet”, the chairman confirmed.

“He would like a lot of money, he is a good manager and he would set his sights higher than Swindon but there have been some interesting people and the three people I have spoke to are desperate for the job and the next two people will be as well.”

Swindon currently sit 23rd in Sky Bet League One after a poor start to the season and have not won in nine league games.

As Power stated, they face Wigan this weekend as they look to get back to winning ways and climb out of the relegation zone.
