Swansea’s transfer plans explained as Spurs wait on potential deal

Swansea City are looking to sign two centre-backs ahead of Friday’s deadline and they appear likely to sanction Joe Rodon’s move to Tottenham if they do.

It’s no secret that Jose Mourinho is desperate to bring the 22-year-old to North London, with the two clubs locked in talks over a potential deal.

However, that’s not the only business that the Swans expect to be doing, with The Athletic revealing that they are targeting two defenders this week to bolster Steve Cooper’s squad.

One of those appears to be Joel Latibeaudiere, with the England youth international poised to join the club from Manchester City, although there have been no rumours as to who the other player could be.

Either way, the update indicates Swansea are planning for life without Rodon as they look for new faces to replace the Welsh international who has been key this season.

Cooper has opted to go with a back three this season and it has worked so far, with his team picking up ten points from four games and they have conceded just one goal.

Both clubs have played in the Premier League in the past five years.

The verdict

This is the right approach from Swansea as they don’t want to leave themselves short until January so they should only sanction Rodon’s sale once they have players through the door.

Latibeaudiere will be one and he looks a very promising signing as he is someone the boss knows well having worked with him for England when they won the U17 World Cup.

It’s now about finalising that deal and securing the other target and whoever does replace Rodon in the XI will have big shoes to fill if it all goes through.
