Swansea  City are making progress in their search for a new manager as Michael Kollner arrives for further talks, according to WalesOnline.

They also report that the Welsh club have compiled a shortlist of possible candidates, and it is likely they will speak to each before deciding on the man to lead them forward.

The German may be an unfamiliar name to many Swans' fans, but he has top-flight experience, having managed Nuremberg in the Bundesliga from 2017-19.

In addition, he got Nuremberg promoted to the Bundesliga in his first year in charge, an experience which should serve him well if he became Swansea boss as they aim to replicate that achievement.

However, he struggled to adjust to the higher level and was sacked in February this year. Nuremberg finished the season bottom of the table with just 21 points.

In his time in charge at Nuremberg Kollner averaged 1.36 points per game, and based focus on keeping his team defensively resolute. In getting promoted Nuremberg conceded just 39 goals in 34 games, the second least in the league.

The Verdict

Kollner has a respectable record. Getting Nuremberg promoted was a fantastic achievement, but it is a shame he put that accomplishment to waste this season. His average points per game isn't terrible but it will need to improve if he is to make an impression in South Wales.

More than anything, Swansea need a manager who can work well with young players. Kollner will need to suit the Swansea philosophy and it isn't clear that he likes to play attacking football, which should be a concern for Swansea fans.
