Swansea City striker Wilfred Bony was all set for a move to Turkey, but despite terms being agreed the move has hit a snag.

Turkish outlet Fanatik, reported by Sports Witness, said yesterday that Bony had agreed terms on a loan deal to Besiktas. All that remained was for the Turkish giants to agree a deal with Swansea over how much they paid for the striker.

It was suggested they wanted to pay a €2m loan fee, with a €4m clause to buy Bony after a season at Vodafone Park.

However, that has been rejected by Swansea, according to Turkish outlet Sporx, also reported by Sports Witness. They're claiming the Swans want a flat fee of €6m for the Ivory Coast international in order to fund their promotion charge in this season's Championship.

The report states that Besiktas officials are now considering the counter offer, although they may offer to pay the €6m in instalments.

Bony had two successful seasons with Swansea between 2013 to 2015, after joining from Vitesse for £12m. His form there prompted Manchester City to fork out £28m for him, but last summer he arrived back at the Liberty Stadium for a £12m fee.

His return was disappointing, he scored twice in 18 appearances across al competitions and now the Swans are looking to cut their losses.

The Verdict

The £16m profit they made in 2015 should have been the end of things, but his return to Swansea happened and their fans will now be wishing it didn't.

They'll lose £6m on Bony, but more importantly perhaps they lost their Premier League status because they didn't score enough goals, something his £12m fee was meant to sort. Once he's gone, don't expect him back for a third spell.
