Borja Baston is set to remain with Swansea City for some time yet, after Spanish newspaper AS reported that the striker's move to Real Zaragoza is unlikely to take place.

The Spaniard joined Swansea from another Spanish side, Atletico Madrid, for what the Welsh side confirmed at the time to be a club record fee, but Baston's time at the Liberty Stadium has fallen some way short of expectations.

Having scored just once in 18 Premier League appearances for Swansea during his debut campaign at The Liberty Stadium, Baston has spent the last two seasons on loan in Spain, where he scored a total of seven goals in 51 appearances in all competitions across spells with Malaga and Alaves.

It had previously been reported by AS that Baston had emerged as a target for second tier Spanish Real Zaragoza, although it has now been claimed that that deal is 'unattainable'.

Having missed out on Baston, the report claims that Zaragoza could now turn their attentions to Wolves striker Rafa Mir.

The 22-year-old has struggled to make an impact at Molineux since joining from Valencia in January 2018, and spent last season on loan in the Spanish second tier with Las Palmas, with Spanish outlet El Periodico recently reporting that Hull City were one of a number of Championship sides to be offered the striker on loan for next season.

The Verdict

This is unlikely to be welcome news for Swansea.

Given Baston came from a club the size of Atletico Madrid, you can't imagine that his wages are particularly cheap for Swansea to pay, which will not be helping the clubs somewhat precarious financial situation.

With Baston's record since joining Swansea - both for the club and out on loan - far from inspiring for a striker, you also get the feeling he won't be getting called upon much if he does find himself back at the Liberty Stadium next season.

This news is also likely to be concerning for Hull, with Zaragoza's interest turning to Rafa Mir potentially hindering their own links with the Wolves man, something they will not want given the likely need for attacking reinforcements at the KCOM Stadium next season, considering the reports around the likes of Jarrod Bowen and Kamil Grosicki.
