Swansea City rejected a Rangers transfer bid to take young midfielder Cameron Congreve on loan, it has emerged.

As per Football Insider, the Swans rejected the offer from the Scottish giants before offering the 18-year-old an extension - which he has agreed to.

Their report claims that the Congreve is firmly a part of Russell Martin's first team plans for this upcoming Championship season, with the club said to be excited to see the exciting youngster's potential.

Congreve has been on the books in South Wales for some time having come through the Swansea academy and made his first team debut for the club last season.

That came in a three minute cameo off the bench in a 1-0 defeat to Blackpool back in March.

From then on, the youngster remained a part of the Swans' first team squad, making a further four appearances in the Championship as the season drew to a close.

Back in March, Congreve signed terms on his first professional deal with the club that would have seen him remain until the summer of 2024.

That deal also included an option for the club to extend the terms for a further year until the summer of 2025.

The length and permutations of the new deal agreed by Congreve have not yet surfaced.

The Verdict

It seems a no-brainer for Swansea City to have rejected Rangers' bid to take Cameron Congreve on loan for the season.

The youngster looks an exciting prospect for the club, and with him set for more first team opportunities in Russell Martin's side next season, it would make little sense to loan him out.

Russell Martin has handled his inclusion in the first team at Swansea well so far, so you have full confidence he will handled the youngsters development well moving forwards.

It will be exciting to see what sort of impact the 18-year-old can have in the first team this upcoming season. He really could be one to watch.
