Swansea City are looking to keep Rhian Brewster at the club next season after his positive start to life in the Championship.

The Swans won the race to loan the Liverpool striker in January, largely due to the connection boss Steve Cooper has with the 20-year-old having coached him for the England U17 side when they won the World Cup back in 2017.

It was considered a real coup for the Welsh side at the time and Brewster has shown why, scoring four goals in 10 starts and impressing with his all-round game.

Such form had prompted speculation that Leeds United would look to make a move for the forward ahead of next season but it appears that the Swans want to secure an agreement with the European champions themselves.

That's after the Telegraph revealed that they are already trying to bring Brewster back for the next campaign.

Ultimately though, the decision will rest with Liverpool, with the report explaining how ensuring the youngster got regular minutes was the priority in January and it likely to be the case again.

QUIZ: These 15 players have played for both Leeds United and Bradford City – True or false?

The verdict

It's no surprise that Swansea want to act swiftly as Brewster has shown in the past few months that he could be a key player at this level or even in the top-flight if they win promotion.

Cooper's relationship with Brewster is going to help the Swans but the lure of Premier League football will appeal and Leeds are likely to be able to offer that.

Realistically he will need another move away from Anfield to continue his development, so Liverpool and the player are going to have a big decision to make when the season does eventually end and it will be interesting to see where he ends up.
