Swansea's Jordan Ayew finally looks set to leave the club as he is set to undergo a medical at Crystal Palace, according to WalesOnline.

The striker spent last season on loan at the Premier League club and has looked likely to join on a permanent basis for much of the summer, with the Swans keen of offload him from the wage bill.

It had been reported that the Ghana international would undertake the medical upon his return from international duty at the African Cup of Nations, and after some time off recovering he is ready to finalise the move.

Swansea have been keen to trim their squad of its highest earners, with the likes of Luciano Narsingh and Leroy Fer given free transfers despite their quality. Andre Ayew and Borja Baston are two more players they would like to see follow Jordan Ayew out of the club.

No fee has yet been reported but given he only had a year remaining on his contract and the club was desperate to see him depart it is unlikely it has cost the Eagles much, if anything, to take him away from South Wales.

The Verdict

This is a very unsurprising conclusion to this transfer deal and one that looked like it would be completed some time ago, and was only prevented from happening due to logistical reasons.

It will be a relief for Swansea and should free up the wage bill, possibly allowing Steve Cooper to utilise the loan market in order to strengthen his squad, with a replacement forward likely high on the agenda.

If Swansea succeed in getting rid of their other unwanted players then they could start to build a more experienced squad and have a better chance of challenging for the play-offs.
