Swansea City have loaned Kristoffer Peterson to Dutch club FC Utrecht on loan until the end of the season, with an option to buy for the Dutch top-flight club.

The 25-year-old has only made 11 appearances for Steve Cooper's side since arriving in the summer from Heracles Almelo, after struggling to make it into the matchday squad this season.

Having settled into life at The Liberty Stadium, the winger now returns to the club where he originally made his name in the Netherlands, having made 33 appearances and scoring four goals across two years after joining in 2014.

Swansea wasn't the first place where Peterson experienced life in the English tiers of football, having spent time in the academy at Liverpool as a 16-year-old, and appeared seven times on loan for Tranmere Rovers in the 2013-2014 season.

Peterson's loan move away comes as speculation surrounding other attackers at The Liberty Stadium begins to ramp up, with Brighton & Hove Albion interested in winger Bersant Celina, while the Swans have put an £18 million price tag on forward Andre Ayew, following interest from Jose Mourinho and Tottenham Hotspur.

The Verdict

Peterson's move away from Swansea in the short term will benefit the winger, as it means he will see regular football again at a club where he really began to make his name as a talented youngster.

He will get more senior experience in a league that he knows well, and there is the option for his new loan club to make the move permanent if he manages to flourish over the next few months.
