Swansea City captain, Matt Grimes, has stated that he should have 'taken one for the team' against Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

After the Swans went 1-0 down late on against Forest, Grimes felt that he could have fouled in the build-up to the goal to stop his side from conceding.

It was Swansea's first defeat of the season as they dropped down to second in the table, but there is still reason to be optimistic after the successful start.

Grimes spoke about the incident and has claimed that he won't make the same mistake twice.

Speaking to Wales Online, Grimes said: “It’s not a nice way to concede and I probably should have taken one for the team.

“I’ve watched it back and it crossed my mind – I should have pulled him back – but I wasn’t sure in the heat of the moment.

“But if I get into that position again I won’t make the same mistake twice.

"You learn a lot more from defeat than victory and we’ll have to have a look at what went wrong.
"We didn’t see the real Swansea City. People who have been coming to our games will know that wasn’t our best performance.
“But we’re not going to be at our best every week, so we need to find a way to win most games when you’re not at our best. We’ll draw a line under this and move on.”
The Verdict This was very honest words from Grimes, and actually quite refreshing to hear from a player. It's good that he opened up on the incident and explained what he should have done. That's why he's captain, a very smart man and someone who is able to take responsibility when his team need someone to be able to do that. Grimes has been impressive so far, and will be hoping he can keep this Swans side ticking in the future.
