Swansea City are hoping to sign versatile Yeovil defender Tom James before the transfer window closes on Thursday evening.

The 22-year old, who can across the back four had been very close to joining West Brom after the Baggies had agreed a fee with the Glovers.

However, that move broke down, with some reports stating personal terms couldn't be agreed, whereas others suggested he had failed a medical.

Either way, Albion didn't close the deal and the defender is now available again.

And, according to Sun journalist Alan Nixon, the Swans are keen on the player who would cost them around £400,000 and see him as a centre-back option for the Championship campaign.

A move to Graham Potter's men would see James return to Wales, as he came through the ranks of Swansea's bitter rivals Cardiff City, although he only played one game for the Bluebirds.

Former Ostersunds boss Potter is keen on adding to his squad before the deadline and has been heavily linked with a move for Brentford's Ryan Woods.

The Verdict

This would be a good signing for Swansea as James is a very promising young player who will have been gutted that his move to West Brom fell through.

He fits the profile for the young, hungry players that Potter has looked to sign this window and could develop into a very good player.

The Cardiff connection won't be ideal for Swans fans but James will hope to win them over quickly with his performances on the pitch.
