Swansea City are rivalling Middlesbrough for the signature of Mo Besic before the end of this month.

According to Leeds Live, the Championship rivals are interested in signing the Everton midfielder, who finds himself firmly on the fringe at Goodison Park at this stage.

Besic was close to joining Middlesbrough permanently earlier in the month, but his Riverside return fell through at the last minute due to the financial demands of the deal.

Tony Pulis’ side remain keen on securing Besic’s signature, but they face direct competition from across the Championship, with the Swans reportedly interested.

Besic has been with Everton for four years, but has struggled to establish himself in the first team on Merseyside.

Last season, whilst on-loan with Boro, the 25-year-old made 17 starts under Pulis, helping Boro finish fifth in the Championship table and reach the play-off semi-finals.

The midfielder also scored one goal, which came in a 2-1 victory over Derby County back in April.

Having returned to Everton following Middlesbrough’s failed promotion push, Besic featured in pre-season under Marco Silva, but doesn’t look like he will be part of the plans for the Premier League season.

The Verdict

Besic is a quality midfielder, who at Championship level, could have a real impact.

The 25-year-old would improve both Middlesbrough and Swansea, and if either team gets him, they will look a lot stronger.

It looked like Boro were in pole position to secure his service, but their slip up earlier in the month could lead to him joining a rival, which would be a killer blow.
