Swansea City have spoken to Michael Appleton as they continue their hunt for Graham Potter's successor.

The former Ostersunds boss left the Swans after just one successful season in Wales, after Premier League Brighton came in for him earlier this month.

That has left the Championship side in a difficult position as they also battle to keep hold of several key players who enjoyed impressive campaigns.

But, the first priority will be bringing in a new manager and BBC reporter Simon Stone revealed that Appleton was holding talks with the club, although they don't appear to be at an advanced stage.

"Michael Appleton talking to #Swans about manager's job today. Obviously not on his own as a candidate. Club keen (obviously) to get the right man."

The 43-year-old's last permanent managerial role came with Oxford, where he built a good reputation for playing attacking football after winning promotion with the side to League One.

Since then, he was assistant manager at Leicester City and has just finished a brief spell on the backroom team with West Brom.

The Verdict

This may not be the most exciting appointment for the Swansea fans but it could turn out to be a decent move if Appleton did land the job.

He has a clear way of playing that would follow on from the work that Potter did and he would also help the talented younger players develop.

So, it would be an interesting choice and obviously it would be a great move for Appleton who will hope he has done enough to impress after these talks.
