Swansea striker Wilfried Bony has reportedly been hit with a new injury blow that could potentially dent Swansea's promotion bid this season.

Journalist Alan Nixon revealed that the Ivorian international had suffered a fresh injury this week.

The news will be disappointing news to Swansea fans who would have hoped that the Ivorian would have been able to return to action before the end of the year after being ruled out with a long-term knee injury.

This comes after Swansea boss Graham Potter revealed to Wales Online that Bony "was not far away" from a return to first-team action at the Liberty Stadium ahead of Swansea's game with Ipswich- a game which they lost 3-2 at the weekend.

Fans will be hoping to see Bony return to action in the near future and help aid their promotion bid, as Swansea aim to return to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

The 29-year-old only scored twice for the Swans last season and has endured a tough time since his first move from the Welsh side to Manchester City. Since his move to City, he has only found the back of the net eight times in four seasons which is a disappointing statistic.

With the international break upon us, Swansea fans face a nervous wait to see the extent of Bony's injury, and whether it will keep him out for an indefinite period of time.

The Verdict

Bony's goalscoring record in the last four years speaks for itself, for all of the wrong reasons.

If the Ivorian can stay injury-free when he returns to the Swansea side, he could thrive under the guidance of Graham Potter and can play a pivotal role in the Swans' side as they look to return to the top-flight of English football.

We would also see an excellent striking partnership between Bony and Scottish youngster Oliver McBurnie, should Bony stay injury-free.
