Swansea City manager Steve Cooper says centre back Ben Cabango will be given every chance to prove his fitness for his side's trip to Carrow Road to face Norwich City on Saturday afternoon.

Cabango is a doubt for the game after pulling up in the warm-up ahead of his side's 1-1 draw at Brentford on Tuesday with a hamstring injury, although it seems he could still feature this weekend.

Providing an update on Cabango ahead of the game, Cooper told DaiSport: “We’re going to give him every chance. I don’t think it’s going to be as bad as it could have been, but it’s still a little bit inconclusive.

"Hopefully he’ll be available, but we’ll find out a bit more later."

Discussing the cause of the injury, and the possibility of taking a chance by throwing Cabango back into the starting lineup, Cooper went on to add: “It’s that usual case, we’ve got loads of games, and I know Ben didn’t play the other day, but everything’s a bit of a rush and it comes around quickly.

“Players report in and will get checked in as normal. Ben, a little bit more serious with his check, and we’ll find out whether he’s available to play, be on the bench or not.

“We wouldn’t take any risks with any players, certainly with muscle injuries. We need to try to keep everyone as available as possible for the duration, which is going to be hard, because of the nature of the schedule."

So far this season, Cabango has made nine league appearances for Swansea, scoring twice.

Cooper's side go into the game with Norwich third in the Championship table, three points adrift of league leaders Reading.

The Verdict

This certainly isn't an easy position for Cooper to be in at the minute.

Cabango has been an asset for Swansea at both end of the pitch this season, so you imagine they will be desperate to have him available on Saturday.

That is something that will no doubt be enhanced by the fact that Norwich look likely to be a promotion rival for Swansea this season, meaning the result of this game could be vital come the end of this season.

Even so, it makes no sense for Swansea to take a risk with Cabango, as they are not going to want to make things worse and leave him facing an even longer spell on the sidelines.
