Swansea City could lose influential midfielder Leroy Fer this month, with Turkish giants Fenerbahce keen on doing a deal for the player.

The 29-year-old is out of contract at the Liberty Stadium this summer and it's highly unlikely that he will sign a new deal, particularly if they failed to go up.

However, whilst Fenerbahce could sign the Holland international on a pre-contract agreement now, the Daily Mail report that they are trying to finalise a move to bring him over before the deadline shuts.

Despite being one of the biggest clubs in Turkey, Fener are currently in a relegation battle and go into a fixture this evening sitting second from bottom in the table, so reinforcements are needed.

Losing Fer would be a massive blow for Graham Potter, with the ex-Feyenoord man a regular for the Swans this season.

He has made 23 appearances in the league and has starred in recent weeks as the Welsh side have closed the gap on the top six and also secured a place in Round Five of the FA Cup.

The Verdict

It seems pretty clear that Fer's long-term future lies away from Swansea but they need to do all they can to convince him to stay this month.

They still have an outside shot of the play-offs and the midfielder is crucial to this team.

However, the chance to make a move now may appeal to the player and financially it would mean they have shifted a big earner and it's their last chance to get a fee for Fer, so you wouldn't be surprised to see him go.
