Swansea City hope to announce Jody Morris as their new head coach within the next 24 to 48 hours if they can agree terms with him, according to Planet Swans.

As reported by Football League World last week, Morris was first considered as an assistant to work alongside John Terry, who was being eyed up for his first head coach role.

Despite departing Aston Villa earlier this week, Terry is taking a break from work with a view to developing his skills for his first managerial job down the line, and because of that Morris has become one of the leading contenders for the job that Steve Cooper departed from.

The Athletic reported days ago that the club were in talks with Morris but also were eyeing up MK Dons boss Russell Martin as well, although any move to bring the latter to South Wales would require compensation to be paid.

Training Ground Guru believes that Martin turned down Swansea's initial offer to become their new head coach and he's set to be in charge of the Dons' Carabao Cup clash with Bournemouth this weekend.

Attentions have now turned back to Morris, who coached Chelsea's under-18's between 2014 and 2018 and most recently was assistant at Stamford Bridge to Frank Lampard before the pair were let go by the Blues in December 2020.

Morris now leads the way according to PlanetSwans to become Cooper's successor but even though Swansea want the 42-year-old secured imminently, there is no done deal yet.

The Verdict

With a deal for Martin looking increasingly difficult to do, Morris may be the next best solution for Swansea going forward.

He's a match in terms of the criteria set out by the club in terms of what they want from a head coach - Morris will play attractive football and he's well-versed in using youngsters having been Chelsea's under-18's manager for four years.

Morris can also bring his contacts from Stamford Bridge to potentially secure some talented loan players - Cooper's England links saw him bring the likes of Rhian Brewster, Conor Gallagher and Marc Guehi to the Liberty Stadium and Morris could potentially guarantee something similar which makes him an ideal candidate.
