Swansea City's Andre Ayew has been speaking about how himself and his team-mates need to be more clinical in front of goal if they are to reach their ambitions and achieve their personal expectations this season.

The 29-year-old has netted six goals already this season after being given a chance in the side by Steve Cooper, and Ayew netted once again when he opened the scoring in the 2-2 draw with Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.

However, Ayew then had a chance to make the score 2-0 in the second half but he failed to convert a header from a Kyle Naughton cross with the game going on to end in a 2-2 draw.

The forward said: "We need to be hammering home our advantages and that’s something we’re going to work on.

"Had we gone 2-0 up, it would have been a whole different game.

“That’s football – there are games when we would get those goals, and games where we’re 1-0 down and have to chase it.

“We should have been more clinical and conceding twice from set-pieces is always difficult to accept, but it’s part of the game."

The Swans have only scored 22 goals in 16 league games so far this season, with six teams lower than the fourth-placed side having netted more than the play-off contenders.

Ayew returned to Swansea for his second spell in January 2018 from West Ham United for £18 million, and spent last season on loan with Turkish giants Fenerbahce where he scored five goals in 38 appearances before the Ghanaian returned to the Liberty Stadium.

The Verdict

Ayew is right about the side having to be more clinical if they want to achieve their goals this season.

The expectations are slowly building up and Swansea fans are now hoping for a play-off push, as well as the players and management expecting a good season.

The 29-year-old forward clearly demands a lot from his team-mates as does everyone else within the club.
