Swansea City transfer stance clarified on MK Dons player

Swansea City are not pursuing a deal for MK Dons midfielder David Kasumu with Russell Martin unlikely to sign more players from his former club this summer, according to Wales Online.

The Swans have already brought in Harry Darling from the League One side this summer with the 22-year-old establishing himself as a real asset at both ends of the pitch for Liam Manning’s side last term.

Martin also dipped into the market in January to lure shot-stopper Andy Fisher away from Stadium MK, a real blow to the third-tier outfit who will be keen to keep hold of their prized assets.

Who is Swansea City's current head coach?

Unfortunately, they are set to suffer yet another transfer blow with Kasumu poised to depart the Buckinghamshire outfit on the expiration of his contract this summer despite being offered fresh terms to stay put.

Making 28 appearances in all competitions last term, he was a semi-regular figure for Manning’s men and he’s unlikely to be short of interest in the coming days and weeks as he potentially looks to find himself a new club before the new season starts.

Swansea, however, won’t be in the race to secure his services despite a potential need to address their midfield situation this summer and in a positive update for his current club, the Welsh outfit probably won’t be raiding them for any more players this summer.

The Verdict:

Martin may need to address his midfield situation this summer with Korey Smith leaving at the end of this month and Jay Fulton potentially set to make an exit too with the latter not likely to be a big part of the second-tier side’s plans moving forward.

Flynn Downes is another player that could be on his way out, with several Premier League sides thought to be interested in securing his services after seeing him thrive at the Swansea.com Stadium.

In recent years, it has become apparent that the Swans aren’t afraid to cash in on some of their prized assets and that makes it even more important that a big list of targets are drawn up so they can move quickly to find replacements.

With Kasumu already accustomed to Martin’s methods and demands – and available for what could be a small compensation fee – he could potentially be a good backup option to the likes of Downes and Matt Grimes if both remain at the club.

He also knows Fisher and Darling already which could help him to settle in and at 22, he will only get better. This is why it’s a real shame they aren’t making an offer for him.
