Swansea City centre-back Joe Rodon has given his thoughts on his new defensive partner Marc Guehi as the Chelsea loanee begins his spell in South Wales.

The 19 year-old was one of three new arrivals at The Liberty Stadium during the January transfer window and the defensive duo started together for the first time during their 1-1 draw with Preston North End on Saturday.

For a long time Rodon was the promising youngster at the club but he has since evolved into the star man at the back, and has clearly been impressed by the new arrival.

QUIZ: Are these 15 ex-Swansea players still playing – yes or no?

“Marc’s a very talented defender. Every game, he’s going to get better and better,” he said in an interview with the club's official website.

“He will grow into that position and grow more confident with each game he plays.

“He’s a great player and I’m delighted to play with him."

Rodon was making his first start since returning from a lengthy lay off with an ankle injury, one which saw him miss nearly three months of action for the Swans.

Guehi was joined through the door at Swansea by his Blues teammate Connor Gallagher and rising Liverpool marksman Rhian Brewster, both of whom have also hit the ground running.

The verdict

It is remarkable and a true testament to the progress of Rodon that he is now held in the same regard as the club's most senior players.

The fact he is talking about Guehi's progress and him getting better and better is strange in a way considering he is still only 22 himself.

Swansea fans best enjoy his presence while they can. He is a truly excellent defender and a Premier League one in waiting.

Expect to see the club receive a near irresistable offer in the summer.
