Swansea City winger Kristoffer Peterson has claimed he is starting to adapt to life at the club after initially under-performing in training following his summer move from Heracles.

Peterson joined the South Wales outfit from Heracles in the latter stages of the summer transfer window, but he has struggled to establish himself at the club with head coach Steve Cooper largely restricting him to EFL Cup appearances.

The winger was introduced from the bench in Swansea's first two Championship matches of the campaign, but he then experienced a prolonged run out of the league side until his recall against Brentford on Tuesday night.

Cooper named Peterson in his starting line-up to face the Bees and the 24-year-old delivered a solid performance despite the fact his side fell to a disappointing 3-0 defeat against Thomas Frank's side.

Peterson has now spoken out following his first league start by claiming his inclusion in the side shows that he is now impressing his manager on the training pitch after a difficult start to life at the club.

“In the beginning, I put my hands up that my training wasn’t good enough, it is not that I was sloppy or unprofessional, but the staff knew what I was capable of," he told Swansea's official club website.

“I finally started showing what I can do in training and that is what led me to my first Championship start. The gaffer is not going to give me opportunities for the sake of it, just because the club signed me or because he knows how I played at other clubs before I joined.

“I feel like I am now starting to adapt, it’s a new life, a new situation and I believe every day matters. Every training session is an opportunity to impress the training staff and I feel like I’m doing that now."

Peterson has now made six appearances in all competitions for the Swans since his switch back in August, while his one goal for the club came during the 6-0 EFL Cup victory over Cambridge earlier in the season.

The Verdict

Swansea fans have not really had a chance to see Peterson play properly since his arrival at the club, but he showcased his ability during the defeat to Brentford on Tuesday night.

It was an extremely underwhelming performance from Cooper's side on the whole, but Peterson's performance was perhaps the only positive from the night as he proved his credentials on the left flank.

His showing against Bees may well have now put him in contention for a starting place in the South Wales Derby on the weekend, but it is important he now keeps up his good work in training rather than taking his place in the side for granted.
