Swansea City want Jefferson Montero back after his loan spell away from the club but are struggling to sort out his work permit, according to reliable journalist Alan Nixon on Twitter.

Montero spent last season out on loan at Getafe in Spain and then on a sub-loan to Club Sport Emelec - where he started his career.

But he could struggle to return to South Wales with doubts over whether he will be granted a work permit to return.

The 63-cap Ecuador international joined Swansea in 2014 and has scored two goals in 72 games for the club.

The 28-year-old plays as a winger and was previously at Villarreal, Levante and Real Betis before his Swansea switch.

Swansea's new boss Graham Potter has been running the rule over all of his squad options after taking over following their relegation to the Championship.

He has decided that he wants Montero back but whether he will return remains to be seen with work permit issues holding up this plan.

The Verdict

Montero is an exciting player who adds skill and pace to the wide areas.

Although he does blow hot and cold and his end product is not always the best, Montero would be a handful for Championship defenders.

This work permit issues seems strange but it could force Swansea into permanently flogging him.
