Swansea City are of the belief that Morgan Whittaker will remain at the club beyond Tuesday night’s transfer deadline.

According to Wales Online, the club has accepted the idea of the forward staying in Russell Martin’s side for the remainder of the campaign.

Scottish giants Rangers have already had multiple offers for the player rejected this window.

Whittaker spent the first half of the campaign out on loan in League One with promotion chasing Plymouth Argyle.

The 22-year old impressed during his time with the Pilgrims, contributing nine goals and seven assists from 25 appearances in the league.

Whittaker has yet to feature for Swansea since being recalled earlier this month, but may now find his way back into Martin’s plans for the second half of the season.

Swansea are not expecting it to be a busy end to the window, with the failure to sell Whittaker seen as a big contributing factor in the club’s lack of funds.

The Championship side have already offloaded six players this month, including a £3 million sale of Michael Obafemi to Burnley.

The Verdict

Whittaker deserves a chance to prove himself in Martin’s side if he is set to remain with the club.

The forward earned plenty of plaudits with his Plymouth performances and looks ready to take on the second division.

It seemed a deal was possible with Rangers, but it now appears the two couldn’t quite meet in their valuation of the player.

This has left Swansea in a difficult position with regards their own activity in the market, and no new arrivals coming in would be quite a poor use of the month from the club amid their promotion push.
