Swansea City could sell defenders Alfie Mawson and Kyle Naughton to make space in their squad, according to reports.

The Mirror's Live Transfer Blog [Monday 23rd July, 00:14AM] reports that Swansea are planning on selling Mawson and Naughton to free up some space in their squad.

The Swans are planning a summer shake-up with new boss Graham Potter keen to change his playing personnel.

Kyle Bartley has already been sold to West Bromwich Albion and more defenders could follow him out the door.

Mawson is wanted by a number of Premier League clubs this summer.

The 24-year-old was a star performer for the Welsh outfit last season despite their relegation and he is being pursued by Burnley and West Ham United.

Naughton plays at right-back and he has been with Swansea since his 2015 switch from Tottenham Hotspur.

The 29-year-old could be axed this summer to generate funds and make some space in the squad.

The Mirror also reports that Swansea could sign Yeovil Town defender Tom James - formerly of Cardiff City - for £350,000 to bolster their defence.

The Verdict

I think that Swansea should try to keep Mawson if they can as he could arguably be the best centre-half in the division if he stays.

But if a club come in with an irresistible offer, then obviously they should let him go.

Naughton has blown hot and cold over the years for Swansea and while he would probably be a decent player at Championship level, they could get his wages off their books and bring in a cheaper alternative.
