Ben Cabango has been a regular in the Swansea City matchday squad lately, but is yet to make his Championship debut as fourth-choice centre back.

The 19-year-old, who is currently on international duty with Wales under-21s, has featured on the bench in recent weeks because of Ben Wilmot's inclusion in the starting 11 while other young defender Joe Rodon has been ruled out for the next couple of months with an injury.

Cabango will have watched Wilmot's performances closely and taken heart from the fact that Steve Cooper has handed the loanee from Watford a chance, with the loanee repaying the faith to his manager.

The Wales youth international Cabango has been given his opportunity in the Carabao Cup this season, featuring in all three of their games as his performances were one of the bright sparks behind the Swans' run.

Cooper will have taken Cabango's performances into account and keenly kept him in his mind, in case Mike Van Der Hoorn or Wilmot was to pick up an injury or suspension.

The centre-back being involved on the bench in recent weeks shows that Cooper hasn't forgot about the youngster in the background, and will be developing him on the training pitch in order for him to be up to the required standard of playing Championship football week in and week out if he was ever called upon.

The young defender will be feeling positive about his chances of breaking through into the Swansea first-team after being given a chance to prove himself in the cups, and manager Cooper has proven that he isn't scared of using the youth if he has to, Jordan Garrick being a prime example so far this season.

Having been a part of Swansea for five years and progressed through the youth ranks, it would mean a lot for the 19-year-old to make his Football League debut at some stage this season following a promising season out on loan with Welsh side The New Saints last season.

The chance for Cabango to feature in the league could be just around the corner, and he will need to be at his fittest and sharpest at any point if he wants to take his chance.
