Swansea City defender Joe Rodon has taken to Instagram to provide an update on his injury recovery after missing out his side's 1-0 victory over Cardiff City.

Rodon was ruled out of the South Wales derby after suffering an ankle injury during his side's 3-0 defeat to Brentford last week, but his replacement Ben Wilmot proved to be the match winner as Swansea sealed a memorable 1-0 win.

It now appears that Wilmot will become Rodon's long-term replacement in Steve Cooper's side after the Swansea boss confirmed that the Welsh international requires an operation and will miss "a few months" of action.

The 22-year-old has now shared an update on Instagram account where he expressed his devastation at being ruled out with an injury, but he also went on to confirm that the operation was a success.

Rodon has been an important player for Swansea this season with the Cardiff clash being the first time he has not been named alongside defensive partner Mike van der Hoorn in the starting line-up for a league match this term.

The Verdict

Rodon's absence from the starting line-up for the Cardiff clash would have been a big blow for Swansea, but it did not work out too badly eventually with his replacement Wilmot scoring the winning goal in the match.

Wilmot also delivered an all-round accomplished performance to ease the concerns regarding Rodon's upcoming lay-off, but the Welsh international will still be missed by the club following his impressive showings this season.

The 22-year-old has now established himself as one of the highest-performing defenders in the division, and he will surely be attracting interest from Premier League clubs in the near future.

However, this injury may now mean that top-flights will hold off until the summer before swooping for the defender.
