Swansea City have confirmed that striker Jordan Ayew has joined Crystal Palace on a permanent transfer.

The 27-year-old spent last season on loan at Palace following Swansea's relegation from the Premier League and scored two goals in 25 appearances.

His performances were enough to convince Roy Hodgson to sign him on a permanent deal, with the forward penning a three-year contract at Selhurst Park for a reported fee of around £2.5million including add-ons.

Ayew joined Swansea from Aston Villa in January 2017 and scored one goal in 14 appearances for the Swans, helping them avoid relegation from the Premier League.

The Ghana international scored eleven goals in 44 appearances in all competitions for Swansea in 2017/18, but would join Palace on loan last summer following their relegation back to the Championship.

Swansea finished tenth in the Championship last season and will face Hull City at the Liberty Stadium on the opening day of the new campaign.

The Verdict

Ayew is a decent player and has scored a few goals for Swansea over the past few seasons, but I don't think fans at the Liberty Stadium will be too bothered by his departure.

Swansea managed fine without Ayew in the Championship last season and that was mainly down to the outstanding contribution of Oli McBurnie.

If Swansea are able to keep the Scotland striker at the club this summer, then I don't think many fans will care that Ayew has gone.

He scored a few goals for Swansea in the Premier League, but he really struggled to make an impact in the Championship with Villa a few seasons ago, so playing him in the second tier would have been a bit of a risk in my opinion.

His sale will allow the club to trim their wage bill and £2.5million is decent money for striker, and it should allow Steve Cooper to strengthen his squad in other areas this summer.
