Swansea City midfielder Jay Fulton has been confined to just 223 minutes of Championship action this season, after being a regular for the Swans during their last two campaigns.

The 27-year-old has fallen victim to a changing philosophy and new personnel at the Swansea.com Stadium, and according to the Swansea Independent, Fulton is not part of Russell Martin's plans as January looms.

One club that were keen on offering Fulton another chance at second-tier level was Nottingham Forest, with Steve Cooper expressing an interest in the midfielder just before he was appointed at Forest, as per a report from The Sun on Sunday (19/09, p61).

It remains to be seen if Cooper is still interested in reuniting with the 27-year-old, with Forest still hoping to trouble the play-off positions this season.

If he is to depart in January then Fulton will be ending an eight-year stint with the South Wales club.

The verdict

Fulton still has a lot of desirable attributes at Championship level, and just because he does not suit the possession-based style at Swansea at present, it does not mean he will struggle for a Championship move.

The 27-year-old has been part of a midfield in recent seasons that have tended to dominate the midfield battles, with his relentless energy, intelligence and technical ability, playing a big part in all of that.

The fact that Cooper expressed an interest in the Fulton even before he was appointed at Forest shows just how highly he must rate him.

However, he has been at Forest for a couple of months now and it remains to be seen if Fulton is a player who could advance Forest.
