Swansea City have offered forward Andre Ayew to Fenerbahce free of charge, according to Turkish journalist Zeki Uzundurukan.

The 29-year-old has returned to South Wales after spending last season on loan with the Turkish giants, but Swansea are  now keen to offload him permanently to free up their wage bill.

The Liberty Stadium outfit re-signed Ayew to aid their Premier League survival fight in January 2018, but the Ghana international could not prevent relegation and the Swans then struggled to afford his wages in the second tier.

Ayew was subsequently loaned out and he scored five goals in 35 appearances last term, as Fenerbahce narrowly missed out on European qualification in the Turkish Super Lig.

Swansea are now reportedly hopeful that Fenerbahce would welcome Ayew's return to the club next season, but the Turkish side's may have cooled their interest in the attacker following the arrival of Deniz Turuc.

The verdict

Swansea are clearly desperate to get rid of Ayew before the transfer deadline, and this is because it would significantly affect the players they are able to bring in.

Ayew's extortionate wages are holding the club back from being able to act freely in the transfer market, which means it is now important Swansea get Ayew off their books as a matter of urgency.

The Welsh side have already managed to offload big earners Leroy Fer, Wilfried Bony and Jordan Ayew this summer, so Ayew's departure would be another huge step in the club's attempts to balance the books.

However, I'm sceptical whether Fenerbahce would want to pay Ayew's large wages next season, seeing as he did not have a great goalscoring record at the club last term.
