Swansea City midfielder George Byers has delivered an update on his recent injury which will keep him sidelined for the remainder of the season.

The 23 year-old limped out of the action against Derby County just over a week ago with manager Steve Cooper later confirming that the ankle sprain would keep him out until the 2020/21 campaign.

However, after he underwent surgery on the injured area, Byers appeared to be in high spirits.

Sharing a photograph on Instagram from his hospital bed, giving the thumbs up, he wrote: "Surgery went well.. Now time for the comeback 👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻".

QUIZ: How much can you remember about Swansea’s 2020 so far?

He had been a regular in Cooper's side this season, racking up 29 appearances in the Championship, scoring twice in that time, as he helped the Swans push for a place in the play-offs.

They will now have to adapt to life without him continuing this weekend when they welcome relegation-threatened Huddersfield Town to The Liberty Stadium.

Cooper has been coming under more and more pressure in recent weeks and failure to pick up all three points against the Terriers will almost certainly lead to that intensifying.

The verdict

The club will always breathe a sigh of relief when their player's surgery goes well.

Byers will now start on the road to recovery but should be ready for the start of the new season if all goes to plan.

He certainly does not come across as someone who will be too dispirited by the set-back and will probably even revell in the comeback trail that now awaits him.
