Swansea City have added England National Team performance coach David Tivey as the club's new first-team fitness coach.

Tivey joins new boss Steve Cooper's backroom staff with immediate effect and will work alongside sports scientist Jordan Smith.

The new coach reunites with Cooper after serving as part of his coaching set-up for the England under-17s World Cup win in 2017.

Additionally, he has worked at Everton, Bury, and the Football Association.

Speaking to swanseacity.com, Tivey indicated his excitement at taking up the role at the Liberty Stadium.

He said: "I am extremely excited to be joining a club like Swansea City, with the pedigree it has following their years in the Premier League and its reputation for playing good football.

“I cannot wait to get started on the hard work to ensure we enjoy a successful season for the team and for the supporters.”

The Verdict

This is not a huge coup for the Swans but fans will surely be excited by the fact that a coach has left the England National Team to join up with Cooper at the Liberty Stadium.

With assistant manager Mike Marsh already in place, the new Swansea manager appears to be continuing to bring in coaches he trusts ahead of his debut season.

Next season will be Cooper's first in senior management and while his lack of experience may raise questions, his experience aiding the development of young players should make him an exciting prospect for Swansea fans.

It's difficult to predict where the Swans will finish next season, but if Cooper can improve on the 10th-place finish under Graham Potter he will surely have been a success.
