Swansea City are looking to secure the signing of a Premier League centre-back on loan before the closing of the summer transfer window.

According to a tweet from sports journalist Alan Nixon, Graham Potter is looking to bring in a central defensive player from an English top flight side.

The tweet stated: “SWANSEA. Trying for a Prem centre half on loan. Have a rival for him. More details online soon or paper tomorrow.”

The Swans, despite having started the 2018/19 Championship campaign strongly with two win from their opening three matches, are in desperate need of new defenders having sold Federico Fernandez to Newcastle and Alfie Mawson to Fulham.

Potter has got his new look side playing well, and having been tipped for promotion at the start of the campaign, will be hoping that a new addition at the back might just be enough for a successful season.

The Verdict

Swansea City were always going to be in the market for a new centre half following the departure of Fernandez and Mawson from the Liberty Stadium this summer.

A Premier League centre half, no matter which team they come from, could be a strong addition as they will likely provide knowledge and experience to the Swansea City side.

The Swans have started very well however, having picked up seven points from their opening fixtures this season, seeing them reach seventh in the league table.
