Swansea City are in talks with Ruben Lameiras over a move to the Liberty Stadium on a free transfer, it has been reported by Football Insider.

Lameiras is out of contract with current club Plymouth, and although the Home Park side have offered their Player of the Year a new contract, The Pilgrims' relegation to League Two on a dramatic final day of the League One season means it is likely the 24-year-old will leave the club in the summer.

It now seems that one potential destination for Lameiras could be the Liberty Stadium, after Football Insider reported that Swansea are in talks with the winger, whose pace and trickery mean that he would fit into well with Swansea's attractive style of play.

The report also claims that French top flight side Bordeaux are interested in a move for the Portuguese midfielder.

Since joining Plymouth from Coventry two seasons ago, Lameiras has 82 appearances and scored 18 goals in all competitions for the Pilgrims.

The verdict

This could be a shrewd move from Swansea.

With the likes of Dan James set to move on and the club in a difficult financial situation, they will have to be smart when it comes to strengthening in the summer transfer window, and Lameiras could fit that bill.

The Portuguese winger has the attacking threat to potentially soften the blow of losing James, and while Lameiras has never played at this level before, James had never played at any level before this season, so that shouldn't be something to put Swansea off.
