Sky Bet Championship side Swansea City have held talks with Ayr United star Lawrence Shankland, according to reports from The Sun (18/02, page 61).

The 23-year old has been in truly phenomenal form for the Scottish Championship this season, scoring a staggering 30 goals in 30 games in all competitions.

The Swans were looking to sign the prolific forward earlier on in the season, but Ayr were reluctant to sell their star-man with the club looking to gain promotion to the SPFL.

But reports now claim that the Swans have held talks with the striker, with his current deal at Somerset Park expiring in the summer - reports also claim that Swansea's Championship counterparts Rotherham United have also offered the 23-year old a deal.

The Swans still have a Championship play-off finish well in their sights despite winning only two of their last five league games - Graham Potter's men currently sit 13th in the league table, nine points off the top six.

The Verdict

Shankland would be an exceptional signing for Swansea City, and it's a player that they could definitely do with bringing to the club.

Oli McBurnie has led the line magnificently well for the Welsh club this season and has scored a hatful of goals, but they need goals from elsewhere if they are to mount a late promotion push.

To score 30 goals in any league is impress, and Shankland would definitely be a clinical finisher in front of goal. He offers real pace in behind and he will have huge confidence after his start to the season.
